No Budget Too Big Or Too Small When It Comes To My Budgies Favourite Food
Seeds That Make These Birds Go Nuts
Budgies continue to be the second most popular pet bird in the world because of their bright colours, small size and low maintenance needs. They live up to 13 years with 10 years as a good average lifespan. They can live harmoniously with other budgies (chances are you’ll end up buying another one if you fall in love with these tiny twitters).
Perhaps the best reason why these little birds are popular pets is how easily you can tame them and make them trust you enough to feed them from your hand. Once they’ve gotten used to it, simply reaching your hand out is going to make them fly towards it and land on your palm. Being really small and light, you can have up to a dozen sitting on your hand without feeling any considerable weight.
But of course, having that many is too much, right?
Or is it?
… Or is it?
… … Is it really too much?
Who knows.
Moving along, budgerigars enjoy a wide variety of food in their diet. You can feed them these fruits & vegetables:
- Apples (With seeds removed)
- Apricots
- Broccoli
- Brussels sprouts
- Cabbage
- Carrots
- Cauliflower
- Chickweed
- Corn
- Dandelion
- Oranges
- Peaches
- Pears (With seeds removed)
- Puha
- Silverbeet
And here are some you absolutely must not feed:
- Lettuce
- Avocado
- Rhubarb
- Chocolate
- Alcohol
- Fruit Seeds
- Caffeine
For bird treats, you can give them millet spray. Give in small quantities as it has a high-fat content and is the equivalent of burgers and fries to a human’s diet.
